Lundebygruppen can cut energy use by 1.2 million kWh

For many commercial buildings, energy efficiency is about far more than reducing the electricity bill. It is about securing future competitiveness, reducing the climate footprint and increasing the value of the property.

For Lundebygruppen in Hærland the goal was to find a complete solution that could combine energy savings, local energy production and smarter energy use. The result is an ambitious project that shows how modern energy technology and building improvements can work together.

Combining solar power and battery storage

A central part of the project is the establishment of a large solar plant combined with battery storage and energy management. By combining production with a battery system, a larger share of the energy can be used when the need is greatest, while energy flows are managed more efficiently.

The solution also includes an energy management system that monitors and optimises the interplay between energy production, storage and consumption.

Reducing the energy need in the building itself

The project is not only about producing more energy. Equally important is the work of reducing the energy need.

Several building measures have therefore been proposed, including additional insulation and upgrading of roof surfaces, improvements to the administration building, replacement of parts of the façade and measures related to the heating system.

The calculations show that these measures alone can reduce the energy need for heating by more than 400,000 kWh per year.

Since this saving is achieved in the winter months, when the energy need is greatest, the measures will also help reduce exposure to high energy prices.

Significant energy savings

When the energy measures in the building are combined with solar power and battery storage, the calculations show a significant potential for reduced energy consumption.

The building measures are estimated to give an annual saving of more than 400,000 kWh, while the solar and battery solution is calculated to give a further saving of 827,500 kWh.

Together this represents a reduction of more than 1.2 million kWh per year.

At the same time the simulations show that the building’s energy rating can be improved from E to B after the measures are carried out.

An investment in the building’s future

The project shows how several energy measures can be seen together to achieve a greater effect than standalone measures alone.

For Lundebygruppen this is not only about lower energy consumption. It is also about upgrading the building stock, improving the energy label and facilitating more energy-efficient operations in the years ahead.

By combining energy efficiency, local energy production and battery storage, a building is created that is better prepared for future energy needs — while energy costs are reduced and the building’s value is strengthened.
