Battery storage and energy management guides
Guides for Norwegian businesses and housing associations on battery costs, economics, energy sharing, reserve markets, peak shaving and backup. Understand your options before ordering.
Try the energy calculatorReserve markets explained: how can batteries earn revenue?
In Norway’s reserve markets, Statnett buys flexibility to help balance the electricity system. A suitable battery can be paid to be ready to change its charging or discharging. Revenue depends on the market, available power, accepted bids and your contract; it is not a fixed return on the battery.
Battery storage for businesses: what should you consider?
Battery storage allows a business to store electrical energy for later use. Combined with an energy management system (EMS), it can reduce demand peaks and shift the use of solar power. The right system depends on the load profile, grid connection and operating priorities.
What is peak shaving? Reducing peak electricity demand
Peak shaving means reducing the highest levels of power drawn from the electricity grid. A battery can supply some of the electricity when demand is high. Controlling charging, heating and other flexible loads can also help.
Island operation and battery backup during power outages
Island operation means a local energy system supplies selected loads while disconnected from the public grid. Battery backup requires more than a battery: the inverter, protection, disconnection and controls must be designed to work together during an outage.
Commercial battery storage: cost and payback in Norway
The installed cost of a commercial battery depends on power, energy capacity, site work and required functions. Its economics depend on the building’s consumption, grid tariff and realistic operating income. Ask for an installed price and a calculation with visible costs and uncertainty.
Sharing solar power in Norwegian housing and business areas
Energy sharing allocates locally generated renewable electricity between eligible metering points. The grid company registers the arrangement in Elhub. Housing associations and business areas must establish property boundaries, participants and generation before sharing can start.
Battery storage for limited grid capacity and business charging
A battery can supply additional local power for short periods while grid demand stays within the agreed limit. This can support charging, machine starts and other peaks. It needs sufficient stored energy and time to recharge between loads.
