Vikersund Solar Park
Vikersund Solar Park combines solar power, battery storage and intelligent energy management in one complete solution. The result is a modern energy plant that contributes both to increased production of renewable energy and a more flexible power system.
From solar plant to intelligent energy facility
Vikersund Solar Park is a concrete example of how the energy system of the future can be built. The project, developed by Hydropower AS in collaboration with Enfy and Hafslund Flex, combines large-scale solar power, battery storage and smart energy management in one complete solution.
The plant has a generation capacity of nearly 10 MWp of solar power and is connected to a battery system that makes it possible to optimise energy use against both the power market and Statnett’s reserve and balancing markets. This makes Vikersund Solar Park an active and flexible energy plant that both produces renewable energy and helps stabilise the power system.
Through Enfy’s EMS platform the batteries are controlled intelligently to optimise operations, flexibility and earnings.

Batteries take a key role
In this new energy landscape, battery storage becomes an increasingly important part of the solution. When more of the power production comes from solar and wind, larger imbalances arise in the grid that must be handled quickly. Batteries are particularly well suited to this because they can respond almost immediately.
Statnett’s costs for reserve and balancing markets have increased sharply in recent years as a result of a growing need for flexibility. Battery plants can contribute in several reserve products and at the same time create value through energy optimisation and arbitrage between different price hours.
This means that batteries become active tools for stabilising and optimising the power system.
A partnership built on development
The collaboration between Enfy and Hydropower AS started after a joint webinar with Statnett and quickly developed into a close development partnership. For Hydropower, the choice of Enfy was about finding a partner that wanted to develop the solution together with them.

For Enfy, Vikersund Solar Park will also function as an arena for learning, technology development and testing of tomorrow’s energy solutions. The experience from here can be used further in new projects both in Norway and internationally.
